Art fires the imagination and stimulates creativity and inventiveness. In the rapidly changing modern world, dominated by technological innovations, these qualities are as important as ever. At Huish Primary School, we endeavour to provide inspiring and exciting opportunities for children to learn about and create art. It is our vision to nurture, explore, and bring out the artistic talent which lies within every child.

Studying art provides all children with the opportunity to express themselves imaginatively, celebrate diversity and also helps to develop critical thinking and the ability to interpret and respond to the world around them. We recognise the positive impact art can have on wellbeing and self-esteem and strive to ensure children feel equipped to succeed, unafraid to make mistakes and able to enjoy being creative.

At Huish, our children will:
-  Develop their skills in drawing, painting, sculpture and other art forms
-  Work both independently and collaboratively
-  Develop their knowledge of artists and significant works of art
-  Celebrate and respect works of art from global cultures
-  Experience art in the context of other curriculum subjects and topics
-  Be encouraged to draw inspiration from a range of sources and use sketchbooks in a range of ways to support their learning in art and in other curriculum areas
-  Learn to evaluate their own work and analyse that of others in a supportive and respectful manner
-  Have the opportunity to share their work at celebratory events
-  Enjoy visits to museums and galleries and work alongside artists in the local community
-  Have access to a range of good quality resources
