The School Council provides all pupils with a voice. Should children wish to raise an idea or concern, they can speak to their Council member and we will discuss it at our next meeting. It is very important to us that pupil’s feel that their voices and ideas are heard at Huish and we listen carefully to what has been raised. Each year, the school elects eight new representatives from Key Stage 2 who meet reguarly
This year, the School Council has hosted a number of successful fundraising activities for their chosen charities. So far, the children have organised three bake sales and raised over £400.
They also supported Children in Need by hosting a Huish Spinathon whereby children cycled as far as possible over several lunchtimes. This raised over £50 and the participants collectively cycled 125 miles, which is the total distance between Yeovil and London! Given its success, they are already in discussions as to how we can improve this event next year.
The Council have also supported the Wessex Training School and interviewed School Direct candidates who are practising their teacher interview skills. They thoroughly enjoyed taking part in this experience and the candidates were impressed with the children’s mature and inquisitive questions.
